Vintage Overview

• Despite incredibly hot weather, resilient vines across the region turned an otherwise challenging growing season into a wildly successful vintage for many producers. Chateaux adapted extraordinarily well to the elements.
• While not necessarily as consistent a vintage as a 2019 or 2009, many chateaux still produced wines that are on par with or better than their top vintages of the past few decades.
• Perhaps most incredible is how accessible the wines all are at such an early age. Soft, super fine tannins are already seamlessly integrated into many wines, and top chateaux have the structure to age for 50+ years.
• There is a sweetness and plushness to the fruit quality of the wines not often present in young Bordeaux. Tartness often dominates the palates of these Primeurs wines, but the mature flavor profiles are stunning.
• As is always the case in a top vintage, the Bordeaux hype machine is indeed in full effect. Although price increases for the 2023 campaign are anticipated, there is still value to be had with many producers
