Well, the heat is back! After a lovely Spring, Summer is upon us with a vengeance. This time of the year, I generally gravitate towards lighter wines with good acidity to keep my palate refreshed. Here are some daily slurpers for this smoking hot heat of Houston!
Please join me on Wednesday, July 19th for a Rose Revolution! Rose is becoming a wine that is a year round treat. The DRY Rose’s of today are MUCH different than the White Zinfandel’s the Americans cut their teeth on in the 1980’s. Rose’s of today are serious expressions of variety and terroir that are often meant to be paired with food. Join me as I walk you through some of my favorite Rose’s and their differences in flavor and methods of production. Foods, of course, will be put together by the Italian food wizard, Phil Nicosia. Garnacha is en Fuego! It’s inexpensive and absolutely delightfully fun on the palate. Fresh fruits of black cherry and raspberry are played into light notes of cream. No oak. Very Gulpable wine. James Score 89 Points

This is one of my favorite summer whites. I think the best value Sauvignon Blancs are coming out of Chile. Zesty acids are whipped into shape with flavors of citrus and grapefruit with kisses of cactus and meadow flowers. YUM! James Score: 90 Points
